  1. Terminate existing connections from IPs when removed from the whitelist

    When removing entries from an Atlas Project's IP whitelist, existing connections from those IPs are maintained, and thus those hosts can continue to perform operations until the connection times out. I'm aware such connections can be dropped by doing a Test Failover or pausing and unpausing the cluster, but in some scenarios this is not ideal if even possible. This also seems like a security gap: When access is revoked from a particular IP or CIDR block, any existing client connections originating from that IP or CIDR should be terminated and the hosts behind that IP or CIDR should be…

  2. Make use of lazyloading, and use dynamic frontend components

    The cloud atlas frontend is very buggy, and not usable at all, even with a fast connection takes minutes to load a page on click.

    https://cloud.mongodb.com/

    I think we are loading all the components and required data from server side.
    Instead we can simply load the core components, and show a user friendly spinner, that will stop spinning once content is loaded via an XHR request. This would be so much more user friendly, just showing them a spinner (maybe estimated time as well).

    Currently the page stays blank white, which is terrible UX.

  3. Dynamically Calculate Timestamp Limits for Continuous Backup Restore (via OPLOG Timestamp)

    Currently, you can put in a OPLOG TIMESTAMP value that exceeds the maximum / minimum value for the Continuous Backup Time Window.

    For example, on the "Date & Time" tab of the "Point in Time Restore" menu, you are given a warning that specifies: "You can only restore to a specific point in time after MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM"

    This should be added to the "OPLOG TIMESTAMP" tab where a warning could be given such as "You can only restore to a specific point in time after XXXXXXXXXX" (Epoch time).

    As such, you should enforce data form validation so that a user…

  4. Clarify Python vs PyMongo

    When connecting to a Atlas cluster and selecting to connect via a Application you can select to connect with what "Driver" where you can select "Python".

    For new users, they might think that the Python library (https://www.python.org/doc/versions/) is what is being referenced when in reality Atlas is referring to the PyMongo Driver.

    For clarity, alter the UI from "Python" to "PyMongo" or "Python (PyMongo)" or something similar to differentiate between Python and PyMongo.

  5. ) User A login inot Mongo Portal 2) He selects an organization and sends an invitation to User B 3) Now in the Activity Feed menu we can see

    1)User A login inot Mongo Portal
    2) He selects an organization and sends an invitation to User B
    3) Now in the Activity Feed menu we can see User B was invited to the organization
    4)Before the user B accepts the invitation , User A goes and deletes the pending invitation
    5)Nothing is shown in activity feed.

    This would help products which are integrating with MongoDB atlas to get the true status of pending invitations.

  6. Project Homepage / Ability to add descriptions to Atlas projects

    We have a lot of Atlas projects in our org, some are outdated, unused, orphaned, some important and used for production. It would be great to have a way to describe what each of them are for, who to contact for questions, etc.

    For example, when you switch to a project, you land on the project homepage that has the description right there, alongside an overview of how many clusters, users, last change, if whitelists are enabled etc. Even better if I can use Markdown or some other "rich" editing experience to create the description and add links, bullet points,…

  7. Field with name "_id" not editable in the Atlas Collections UI.

    1. Add a collection

    2. Add an object field

    3. Add a string field to that object. Call it _id.

    4. Enter some value Save it.

    5. Try to Edit by clicking on the edit button.

    6. Try editing the value of _id (string) field. Not happening.

  8. It would be useful to have an ability to pragmatically keep up to date with the latest prices in a RESTful fashion.

    Something like /offerings/aws/compute/M10 returns:

    {
    // some metadata about this pricing api.
    "prices": [

    {

    "priceId": "c800b6d9163b0db7",
    "region": "us-east-1",
    "charges": {
    "compute": {
    "price": 0.11,
    "interval": "hourly",
    "currency": "USD"
    },
    "storage-GB-month": {
    "price": 0.015,
    "interval": "hourly",
    "currency": "USD"
    },
    "backup-GB-month": {
    "price": 2.5000000001,
    "interval": "hourly",
    "currency": "USD"
    }
    }
    }

    ]
    }

    Use case: For those that use programs to calculate costs, this will reduce some of the guesswork involved by looking at cryptic documentation and invoices to calculate and forecast costs and be able to charge appropriately to match systems with demand.

    Amazon has similar API endpoints available:

    https://pricing.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/offers/v1.0/aws/AmazonEC2/current/us-east-1/index.json

  9. Add Option to Disable Federated Authentication Automatic Account Creation

    Based on the documentation it appears there is no option available to disable automatic account creation when Federated Authentication is used.

    The business case for disabling automatic account creation is to allow a limited set of users from the Identity Provider to have access to Atlas and the databases, while not allowing anyone with an account in the same domain to create an Atlas/Database account.

  10. Add support for arbiters

    We have a situation where we are required to build in an AWS region that only has two AZs (ca-central-1). In addition, there are no other AWS regions in the country (Canada). And due to our requirement around data sovereignty, we can't host this data set within a different country.

    Because of this, we can't guarantee our cluster will stay up if we lose a single AZ unless we put an arbiter in a 2nd region (since no data is copied to the arbiter). However, Atlas does not support arbiters currently. I know arbiters aren't ideal, but in this edge…

  12. Expose the `indexStats` action when creating custom roles in Atlas UI.

    The $indexStats aggregation pipeline allows user to get the statistics regarding the use of each index for the collection. This aggregation pipeline requires the indexStats diagnostic action.

    However, currently Atlas UI doesn't expose this action when creating custom roles. It would be nice to have this action listed in the "Collection Actions => Diagnostic Actions" list.

  14. Stitch email translations

    The Stitch confirmation and reset password emails for the Email/Password Provider are now only in English.

    A page where you could translate these emails, would be very useful.

    Now we must use the function method, which is more work. I suspect a lot of people would want this feature (all non English markets).

  16. private link - common dns suffix

    when creating a private link, the resulted dns for the cluster is in the form of "cluster-pl-.{somerandomstring}.mongodb.net"
    the only difference from the public endpoint is the 'pl' addition in the first section.

    in order to configure the vpn wildcards and rules,
    it can be extremely helpful to have this separation more general, for example
    cluster.{randomstring}.pl.mongodb.net -- private links
    cluster.{random
    string}.mongodb.net -- public

    that way we can use the wild card *.pl.mongodb.net to differentiate and route the traffic accordingly

  17. Allow me to pay for a month of "developer" level support without committing to a subscription

    AWS lets you pay for a month of support at any time.
    My understanding of MongoDB support is that if you discontinue support and then start again a year later, you have to pay for all the interim months.
    Another way of doing this would be to pay per-incident. I like the monthly model better because it would work for people just getting started to ask a lot of questions.

  18. Disk Usage Breakdown

    When looking at the cluster page, I can see Disk Usage = 1.6GB, for example, but I don't know what the breakdown of that is. For instance, if I look at the same DB and add up the size of the collections themselves it's barely 1.5MB. So 1.6 Gig disk = 1.5 Meg data. I suspect this is oplog etc. but it is a pretty confusing potential red herring when diagnosing performance issues etc.

  20. Provide `replSetName` vs. `snapshotId` mapping in `GET /groups/{GROUP-ID}/clusters/{CLUSTER-NAME}/backup/snapshots` Public API call for each

    What is the problem that needs to be solved? Provide replSetName vs. snapshotId mapping in GET /groups/{GROUP-ID}/clusters/{CLUSTER-NAME}/backup/snapshots Public API call for each snapshotId.

    Why is it a problem? (the pain) You're doing automated disaster recovery (restore from Atlas to on-prem via Manual Restore) scenario and you need to know which snapshotId (and its corresponding .tar.gz file) is related to which Atlas Cluster Shard/Config Server Replica Set. E.g. 5e442aa4cf09a2352527536b = Cluster0-shard-0, 5e442aa4cf09a23525275370 = Cluster0-shard-1, 5e442aa4cf09a23525275375 = Cluster0-config-0.
