Thanks for creating this feature request Doug. I just wanted to say that our team strongly agrees here - adding the $search after a $match would be very intuitive.

This is such a great idea!
Searching for users might sound easy, but it quickly become pretty advanced. A good user search should support:
Searching on name
Searching on last-name
When providing a last-name, don't show matches where only first name matches
Support multiple e-mails, and possible multiple names
Internalization on steroids - names can contain all kind of characters
Short names; in some countries it's normal with names that only have 1-2 chracters.
