You can now transform documents for Atlas Search, enabling you to index and query Decimal128 fields as a Double. See how here.

Despite the https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/atlas-search/changelog/#28-june-2024-release notes saying "Updates all indexes to support the sort option for number and date types", this still doesn't work with Decimal128 number types. I thought sorting by numbers and dates already did work, so I was optimistic this meant ALL number types - but no such luck.

While this feature would be valuable for me, I've had a better idea that would solve it and all kinds of other scenarios as well:

See also my feature request about type coercion. That would solve this need for me.

Agreed. It should work with the new Sort features as well.
Although for the purposes of Atlas Search, I would settle for a lossy type coercion to a normal decimal or int64 (depending on the defined representation).

I am able to save a favorite with a blank password. What it doesn't do, however, is prompt me for it when I click connect.
I've entered this suggestion for it, since I couldn't find another one:

Alternatively, I would also be happy if the specific case of using numeric ordering on strings were added to the new sort feature, like you can with normal queries. But generalized type coercion would be more broadly useful.

Although native support would be better, not to mention simpler, using the new transformation feature certainly seems like it would work - and I intend to try it. But please continue to consider native support. Not supporting ALL number types just seems wrong and arbitrary.
