  1. Allow Webhook notifications for System Alerts

Webhooks are available for Project and Global Alerts. However they are not available for System Alerts.

It would be ideal to be able to use Webhooks for all alerts.

  2. Allow scheduling grooms

Add the ability to schedule groom jobs at a specific point in time. Also expose this functionality through the API for easy modifications through configuration management tools.

  3. Improve backup job status in Backup jobs summary table

When checking the backup job details for a 4.2 deployment, this is always reporting to be performing a "WT Checkpoint" even though it is not exactly generating a snapshot at that point in time.

The request is to enhance the reporting for this summary table in order to get further details on what the Backup Module is doing at that precise point in time. If it is awaiting for the instruction to execute a snapshot, in the process of transferring blocks, etc.

  4. Add collection level statistics to the measurements API

Get Database Measurements currently provides information from dbStats.

Adding collection level statistics would be useful for gathering information via the API on a regular basis to measure growth of each collection and other metrics. Data Explorer functionality is not available via the API.

  5. Implement IAM role authentication for AWS SES in Ops Manager

At the moment using AWS SES for email delivery in Ops Manager requires AWS Access Key and Secret Key. Please implement the IAM role authentication for this option as it has been done for the S3 endpoints.

  6. Ability to customize subject line for System & Global Alerts

Currently there's no way to customize the subject line of either a system or global alert. The subject line only has the project name & time. It doesn't even say why the alert was generated until the email alert is opened. Having the ability to modify the subject line, even if it's to certain predefined fields such as alert condition for example would be helpful in addressing alerts in an efficient and effective manner.

  7. Allow multiple authentication sources simultaneously

Currently Ops Manager authentication supports either the Application Database, LDAP, or SAML, but these methods cannot be combined. Ideally we would like to move to LDAP, but we are stuck with the local authentication method as we depend on a local admin user which is used when first deploying and configuring the Ops Manager ecosystem. We also do not want to depend solely on the availability of the LDAP servers regarding an admin user. The MongoDB cluster deployments do support multiple authentication methods at the same time (we have local admin and monitoring accounts while users are authenticating via LDAP),…

  9. Benchmark backups in Ops Manager

It would be helpful if, on the Snapshot overview page or on the Admin -> Backup page, there was the ability to benchmark the backup to help identify bottlenecks.

Allow the user to select a deployment to test and then do a random sampling of data (ie: 100MB) to a temporary Snapshot location and then graph out the metrics for things like Memory/CPU/Disk IO on the source host, Database performance, Backup Agent performance, Network throughput, Blockstore/File System Store/S3 write performance, etc.

Then create a report based on this benchmark that can be sent to technical support for recommendations.

    This will…

  10. Update automation config through API without pushing entire config file

For updating any Automation managed parameter, the only method through API is involving pushing the entire Automation config (which is a json file of hundreds lines) with modifications/addition all together.

Even though I just want to update one single value.

Is it a bit dangerous that there may be human mistake when modifying such a large json file. Wrong configuration may be push to the server.

Graceful if there is a feature which allow user to partial update the configuration through API.

  11. Allow customization of Alert's Subject/Body

Currently alerts do not allow for any customization of the Subject or Body. It would be useful to allow customization of both the Subject and Body of emails and other alert methods. This would allow customers to add information, such as links to internal runbooks or documentation, to assist with resolving the alert.

  12. Add hostname/port attributes into all Cluster/Replica Set alert types

What is the problem that needs to be solved? Add hostname/port attributes into all Cluster/Replica Set alert types generated via SNMP Alert Traps, Ops Manager's Public API calls (Project/Global Alerts) and Alert Webhooks (Project/Global Alerts).

Why is it a problem? (the pain) Hostname/port attributes are currently missed in Cluster/Replica Set alert types and we only provide a name of the Cluster/Replica Set for which the alert was generated. Operator who watch Monitoring System (the one that receive Ops Manager Alerts) needs to see hostname/port information of a Shard/Replica Set for which such alert was generated, in order to quickly understand…

  13. Snapshots taken by Ops Manager Backups should include config file

When restoring a snapshot through Ops Manager, automation will create the config file for you. But if you're restoring a snapshot manually, there's no config file! Surely we can include a sample mongod.conf withe sufficient information filled out to help a user get up and running again.

We are going to expose this via mongocli first as it would probably makes a fastest solution.

  15. Make snapshot retention policy more customisable

Make the retention policy of Ops Manager snapshots customisable so we can choose custom values (like 21) to be more flexible with the settings.

  16. custom defined roles In OPS Manager

We need a custom defined role to perform specific functions in the OPS Manager.

For Example --> We need a custom defined role which can perform subset of functions from Project Automation Admin Role + Project Read Only Role + rs.stepDown() functionality

    Project Automation Admin Role:

    View deployments.
    Provision machines.
    Edit configuration files.
    Download the MongoDB Agent.
    + Project Read Only role.

    Project Read Only Role:

    Activity
    Operational data
    Ops Manager Users
    Ops Manager User roles.

** This feature becomes very useful to contain the access of certain privileges and to have the flexibility tailormade privileges instead of giving the…

  17. Loadbalance functionality for Ops Manager

When Ops Manager is under heavy load from many active database services, f.e. to handle backup snapshots, the recommendation from the case support portal is to use a loadbalancer in front of Ops Manager.
It would be great, if Ops Manager could have this as an integrated functionality to forward connections from agents to additional Ops Manager instances.
Background: Our nTSE did confirm, that we could set a different Ops Manager URL in the agent config, but the transferred data from this agent is still sent to the initially configured Ops Manager instance.

  18. index review before sharding with OPS Manager

Currently, when you use OPS Manager to shard a collection, it automatically creates a foreground index that exactly matches the sharding key, when such index doesn't exist. When the sharding key column(s) is(are)already prefixing an existing index, it's not sufficent.
This is dangerous in Live environments because the whole database is blocked for a long time (sharded collections are usually big collections).
So, several features could exist :
    - before continuing with sharding, OPS Manager warns that it needs to create this foreground index first. You can stop if you don't agree (and create this index by yourself first).
    -…

  20. Add 4.4 tool to PATH

Since MongoDB 4.4 the tools are located in another folder that is not included in the automation agent bash profile:

    [root@n1 mongodb-mms-automation]# cat /etc/profile.d/mongodb-mms-automation-agent.sh
    export PATH=/var/lib/mongodb-mms-automation/bin:${PATH}

Would be nice to have also the mongo tools in the path
