We need to integrate our enterprise SMTP relay servers with MongoDB Ops Manager for email notifications.
Our SMTP relay infrastructure supports OAuth2-based authentication for sending emails, in line with modern security standards.

Currently, Ops Manager only supports basic username/password authentication for SMTP configuration and does not provide an option to use OAuth2. This limitation prevents us from directly integrating Ops Manager with our approved SMTP relay servers.

What would you like to see happen?

We would like Ops Manager to support OAuth2 authentication for SMTP email notifications, including:

• Configuration of an OAuth2 authorization/token endpoint

• Configuration of SMTP server details

• Ability for Ops Manager to securely obtain and refresh access tokens

• Use of OAuth2 access tokens to authenticate with the SMTP server when sending email notifications

Why is this important to you or your team?

This feature is critical for us because:

• We manage hundreds of Production and Staging MongoDB clusters using Ops Manager

• Email alerts are a primary notification mechanism for incidents, failures, and operational issues

• Security policies in our organization do not allow basic SMTP authentication for relay servers

Without OAuth2 support, we are unable to directly use our approved email infrastructure, which impacts alert reliability and operational readiness.

What steps, if any, are you taking today to manage this problem?

As a temporary workaround, we are routing Ops Manager emails through an intermediate Postfix relay that handles authentication on behalf of Ops Manager.

While this works for now, it adds operational complexity, additional maintenance overhead, and is not an ideal long-term or scalable solution. Native OAuth2 support in Ops Manager would eliminate this dependency.
