GCP Export Cloud Backup Snapshot support

Currently "Export Cloud Backup Snapshot" is a really good feature for off-line backups, but it only supports S3. This is quite limiting for organisations that don't use AWS. It would be really good if it also supported GCP Cloud Storage.

We are excited to announce that Atlas now supports exporting snapshots from any cloud provider to Google Cloud Storage using the Atlas Admin API. This release completes our support for exports to all three major cloud storage providers – AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, and now GCP – giving you greater flexibility in where you can store your data for long-term archival or off-platform storage. To learn more, check out our docs here ( https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/backup/cloud-backup/export/ ).

As we are now into 2025, can you please provide an updated GA estimate for this feature?

Hi, are there any updates available, when the feature will be released for GCP?

Hi Geoffrey. MongoDB recently released this feature for Azure. https://www.mongodb.com/docs/atlas/backup/cloud-backup/export.

Hi All, As an update we do have this on our roadmap. We are currently working to improve the consistency of sharded cluster exports and then we will tackle Exports to GCP later this year. The best estimate at this time is by the end of this year (2024) to have exports to GCP GA'ed. I will update here if theres a chance that we can deliver that sooner

Could you please provide an estimated timeline for when the feature request to support Google Cloud Storage (GCS) in MongoDB Atlas might be implemented?

As an Atlas User i want to export Backup Snapshoots to a GCP bucket because my company don't have AWS subscription.

we really need this feature ASAP..it would be extremely useful to store the backups in GCP (GCS). I also agree with other comments and the cost involved.

Our organisation and regularity requirement is to keep the backups externally. Since we are hosting the databases in GCP, it would be extremely useful to store the backups in GCP (GCS). I also agree with other comments and the cost involved.

Agreed with the sentiment already present here; we are occurring additional costs in AWS we wouldn't be as a GCP deployed organization just to ensure our data is backed up. Since our clusters are deployed on GCP there should be an option to export to GCS, not AWS.

Not supporting GCP direct export is indeed a huge *not documented* surcharge for us. We're currently being charged twice for an export: Atlas egress fees ($.125/GB) as well as GCP egress fees (also $.125/GB). This is complete non-sense.

Moreover we would like to encrypt our backup before sending them to AWS so it would be really useful for us to have this supported. Also, we are currently charged A LOT for the cloud backup because we pay the export cost to AWS (documented in the MongoDB Atlas doc) + the price of transfert from GCP to another Cloud. We would avoid this with an export directly to GCP and then a manual export form GCP to AWS.

Our organization requires external storage of backups for critical systems. If this feature was available on GCP, it would be extremely useful.
