Our team primarily uses AWS cloud to host our services. Our mongodb atlas clusters are also in AWS. The tags are used for segregation based on environment, client and also for costing. Since AWS tags support ':' character in the key and value, the same feature is expected in the AWS hosted mongodb cluster too.

What steps, if any, are you taking today to manage this problem?

We are manually replacing ':' with '-' charater and mapping tags with key/values
