Allow users to download backup snapshots from BYO-KMS encrypted clusters
Many clients download backup snapshots to keep an offline copy of their data either to restore it into their on-prem development environment or to keep an offline copy of their data. At the moment, Atlas does not allow downloading backup snapshots that have customer BYO-KMS encryption enabled.

Accept-Range for backup download
The backup archives can be very large, and if my download is interrupted, without Accept-Range, it is not resumable. A length header is also missing, so the downloader doesn't know the size of the archive.

SHA1 Digest hash for Atlas Cloud Backup Restore
Atlas Legacy Backup used to have digest hash (SHA1 Checksum) on the restore job, but it is currently not available in Atlas Cloud Backup. This feature will be helpful in validating the integrity of the downloaded file.

Cloud backup for m0 instances
It would be nice and convenient if lower-tier users could have the cloud backup option available (I believe m5 is the smallest but it's $9/month). I use m0 for one of my projects and I know mongodump is an option but I would much rather pay $1/month extra for backup capabilities. This project is quite small and I don't need much resources, but I would like the ability to scedule daily backups for a small fee.

hourly backup retention
hourly backup retention. Why minimum a day, so 24 backups stored? For big databases, this is an amount of data and money

API access over VPC
We have a scheduled process which starts up a GCE instance with both an internal and external IP address. This runs a script which:
- uses the Mongo API to get the id of the latest snapshot
- uses the Mongo API to create a restore job with HTTP delivery
- downloads the backup and perform some verification processes on the backup.
Currently Mongo Cloud only allows access to the Mongo API and the HTTPS download over the public Internet. This requires adding Google Cloud IP addresses to both the API key IP Access List and the Network Access IP Access List. It…

Monthly backup
We would like to schedule our monthly backup and 1st Sunday of every month. Currently, this option is not available via the Atlas Console. It gives options like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th...etc of every month but not a specific day like Sunday or Monday. Please consider adding this option as it will be ideal for us to take our monthly backup on a Sunday when the database is not busy.

Allow instant backup on every type of cluster
Allow to create a backup when we want, on every type of cluster (like we could do with mLab plans)

Enable AWS EBS Fast Snapshot Restore (FSR) on Atlas
To speed up recovery after restoring from a snapshot or having a node replaced, it would be nice to have the option to use AWS Fast Snapshot Restore
https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-amazon-ebs-fast-snapshot-restore-fsr/
This would allow the disk to have full performance as soon as available.

Snapshot cluster and copy
In one click I would like to copy the exactly one database and put it in another cluster. This is especially useful for debugging.
This would allow us to easily recreate the database from our production cluster and put our staging (or other possible clusters) cluster into an exact state to help replicate issues or bugs.

Option to take a Cloud Backup snapshot on destination cluster before restoring if Cloud Backup is enabled on it
An option should be provided to allow a user to take a snapshot of the destination cluster of a Cloud Backup restore before the restore is performed so that they can easily "revert" the restore if they need to (by just requesting a restore using the snapshot that was taken just prior).
It's possible to be in a situation where you've selected an incorrect snapshot for restoring or that you'd supplied the incorrect cluster for the snapshot to occur (this is less likely to happen in the UI than it is to happen programmatically via the API). Taking a snapshot…

Cloud backup to new cluster
Two different ideas for this:
-When building a new cluster having the option to build it using a cloud backup snapshot for DR when a cluster is down-Same idea to restore to a new cluster but from the restore target dropdown IE Restore to New cluster which opens the create a cluster workflow with the cloudbackup snapshot section populated

Replay the point-in-time-restore journal for debug/diagnosis
When performing a forensic analysis for the purposes of a restore, in order to determine the appropriate point in time when our data was last "sane", it would be awesome if we could start with a point-in-time restoration, and play the journal forward, e.g. performing a bisect on the data.

CronJob Live migration to second cluster in second project
It would be great to have a feature that schedule live migration from a replica set of a PROD cluster to a DEV cluster directly in ATLAS.
The plus of this solution are :
- I dont need a dedicated server to do this job on my side (deploy it, configure it, script it, open network/port, etc ..)
- I will not have to dump the whole databases from the cloud then uploading it afterwards (can be long)
- Gain from outbound price in the cloud (more for you this one)1 vote -
take snapshots off of the activity tab for maintenance.
When I select the maintenance filter on the activity feed all the daily snapshots show up. I feel like there should be a backup screen that shows all the snapshots on the activity feed. this would make the maintenance screen more precise and relevant.
. The maintenance screen should only show what software maintenance goes on the atlas clusters. This should also include all the release fixes. so, I do not have to go to your
https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/release-notes/software releases page.It is very hard to tell what maintenance will be applied in a given time period. We have timeframes to apply…

Add editable description to a snapshot
After an incident I may single out a snapshot and decide it is important. At this point I am able to change the retention policy to keep it for a longer time.
It would be useful to also be able to add a note or a description to that snapshot so that I may tell future me why that snapshot was important and what incident it is tied to.

Helpful error message when restoring backup
When I recently attempted to restore a db backup I got a cryptic error message stating "Error: Cluster Not Found"--which was extremely confusing considering that I pressed the restore button in the backup options. After some great tech support, I added my user as project owner and everything worked fine.
Please make the error message clearer in both the Restore and Download backup scenarios.

Provide a default alert for projects using Cloud Backup
Given how import backups are to an enterprise's business continuity plans, the set of common sense default alerts set by Atlas should include an alert for Cloud Backup on projects with Cloud Backup enabled. Either "CPS snapshot has been stuck in queue for 1 hour" or "Snapshot schedule feel behind by 1 hour" would suffice.

Permission level to query snapshots
Right now I have to give an admin permission to allow someone on my team to query snapshots from a backup (i.e. downloading the tunnel file).
I don't want to give an admin permission just to allow our data analysts or a developer trying to understand data corruptions to view the database at an older date.3 votes
